Our summer has been busier than anticipated but this past weekend we were determined to enjoy the tube on the lake. And we did. First Saturday evening.

We even stopped in the middle of the lake and enjoyed a swim {and by we I mean Al and the kids.. someone had to man the boat
}

And then again on Sunday afternoon.

Somehow two of our life jackets flew away on Saturday evening while driving to the lake but someone found them and returned them to our doorstep Sunday morning. And though we still have no idea who was so kind as to return them to us.. Thank you!
Hope you are enjoying your summer!

This is actually Buddy’s second bath of the year so we’re doing pretty good. If you knew how much he hates getting wet you’d understand why
.

And some water play.

I’ve been meaning to do a post like this so here it goes:
If you have been contemplating a photo session with me or know you will want a family session for Christmas cards in the fall then NOW is a good time to book. Last year I had lots of last minute calls and had a hard time turning people away. Fall is so busy with school starting and our hobby farm {putting meat in the freezer}. So this year I am only taking on a few sessions in the fall and no later than early November.
The slots are filling up so contact me if you would like to reserve one. Better yet.. have a session in the summer
.
And a picture from when the horses were boarding here.

Our July long started out with watching fire works over the lake to celebrate Canada Day on Thursday evening.

Friday morning we headed six hours north to Cedar Lake to enjoy camping and fishing. Our cabin was really nice.. 4 bedrooms, kitchen/dining, living room, a spacious bathroom and a large deck. We spent as much time on the lake as we could {weather allowing}.
This was the biggest catch of the week: a 34″ Jack {otherwise known as Northern Pike} caught by Alex. He also caught a 32″ Jack. We had to throw them back since you can’t keep a Jack over 30″. I caught the largest Pickerel of the week {otherwise known as Walleye} at 18″. They can’t be kept at any longer than 20″.

Lots of fishing, cleaning….

And a good fish fry on our deck with friends as we watched the sun set.

When we couldn’t be on the lake the kids did some cray fishing.

And swimming.

The view was gorgeous. Can you see the moon?

We only got home last night… {Wednesday}and today was spent catching up on yard work, laundry, putting fish in the freezer and sending off an order for a client.
It’s good to be home

This little sweetie is turning one in a couple of weeks and I had the privilege of photographing her for the occasion. What a cutie.. I could just squeeze her all day.

Look at that smile… I love it!

I couldn’t decide which one to post.. with shoes or without. I love them both.

She was so much fun to photograph.. thank you for having me!

I think it was back in February that I shared a prayer request on here concerning my health. I was diagnosed with a kidney disease called FSGS {focal segmental glomerulosclerosis} and for those of you who don’t already know what that is I will give you a few details:
FSGS is thought to be an auto immune disease… meaning my immune system started to attacked itself at some point. The cause of this disease is unknown. I have said it before and I will say it again.. I have never drank, smoked, done drugs, or taken prescribed medication until now. It causes Nephrotic Syndrome {spilling large amounts of protein from the blood into the urine, large amounts of water retention, bone density loss, extreme exhaustion}.
In January when I was tested it showed I was spilling 7 grams of protein per day {normal is 0} and was low on Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and basically everything else good. A few months later {with the help of diuretics, and dietary changes} I am down to spilling 3.5 grams of protein per day. To me that sounded like great news. My doctor {kidney specialist} doesn’t think it’s great news until I’m at 0 grams. He says that if I remain at this stage.. spilling 3.5 grams per day my kidneys will deteriorate at 8% per year and I would end up in renal failure in about 10 years. So the goal is to get it to 0! He also says that there is no such thing as a cure for this disease…. Only remission.
I did not cause this disease nor did I choose it but it chose me therefore I will allow God to use it to mold me into the person He needs me to be.
My God also happens to be in the business of curing incurable diseases so keep those prayers coming
A self portrait. Can you see me?

Meet Tucker.. he {and two friends} are visiting our pasture for a few weeks.

I usually don’t post more than once per week but I have a lot to share this week
Ever since I was twelve {or at least that’s as far back as I can remember} we have made egg noodles as a family. Every summer we get together at Mom and Dad’s and make enough egg noodles for our families… used for noodle soup throughout the year. Should I post images of the chicken slaughtering we do in the fall? You can’t have good noodle soup with chicken
This year all the eggs were provided by our chickens {all the meat for the soup is also provided by our chickens
}
Mom spends a few days making the dough. Then she cuts it and rolls it into the right size pieces.

This year Alex helped out by rolling the dough through the noodle machine. {he is twelve after all}

Next I cut the noodles with another noodle machine.

And hang them to dry.

After a couple of days of drying they are ready to be broken and stored.

They keep well in ice cream pails in our storage rooms for a good long time {but of course they are all gone by the time the year is done}.

We celebrated Father’s Day Saturday evening. First we presented him with a new Broil King BBQ. Then we served him a manly meal of steak, potato and pasta salad. And then we took him fishing on the lake. Sadly.. I have no pictures of him from the day… our boat isn’t big enough that I would be able to fit him in the frame of my 50mm lens.
I really wanted J to catch his first fish but it just didn’t happen.

Someone else caught her very first fish though {with daddy’s help of course}.

A keeper too. I was hoping that would spark her interest a little more but that didn’t happen either.

One more of this cutie.

After that I put my camera away and tried to catch a fish of my own but the fish weren’t biting. Our oldest two are good fish catchers… these are from a few weeks back.

We will be enjoying our ‘new’ old boat a lot this summer.. looking forward to tubing!

This tiny little girl had her first photo session at only five days old. Though she wasn’t very sleepy we managed to get her to sleep for a few.
Isn’t this hat cute? She is so sweet.

This beautiful pink blanket was made by her mommy with love.

Almost forgot this one:

Thanks for having me.. I loved playing with her and could do that over and over
